Veteran Actor John Hurt Receives Knighthood in New Year Honours [VIDEO]


(SNN) – John Hurt, the 74-year-old actor known for his portrayal of Alan Clark in the TV Series “The Alan Clark Diaries” was appointed a knighthood for his services to drama. Hurt has served in the entertainment industry for more than five decades.

Although Hurt is remembered as Alan Clark by endearing fans, perhaps he is best known as Joseph (John) Merrick in the black and white movie, “The Elephant Man” which was released in 1980. a role that received an Oscar nomination. Another Oscar nod came from his role in 1978's "Midnight Express."

Many Scifi fans will no doubt remember Hurt as the very first victim of the Alien in the 1977 movie of the same title, a scene that left an indelible impression on movie buffs for decades. Who can forget Hurt writhing on a table as the Alien makes his entry by busting out of Hurt's chest.

You can see Hurt's latest work in the 2014 release of Hercules. Hurt shares the screen with Dwayne Johnson as he plays the character Lord Cotys.
