British Actor Richard Attenborough Dies at 90.

Jurassic Park:"I bring the scientists, you bring the rock star."


(SNN) – Richard Attenborough, who is most recently remembered as the fictional character, John Hammond, the eccentric that brought to life dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, died today at the age of ninety. Richard, the brother to Sir David Attenborough, spent a lifetime as an actor, film director, producer and entrepreneur and most recently held the position as the President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Attenborough, who once said, “And I believe we need heroes, I believe we need certain people who we can measure our own shortcomings by” was a hero to many. He was a hero in life, stage and to those who benefitted from his humanitarian efforts; efforts that were recognized when he was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Prize in 1983.

But to many, Attenborough is fondly remembered for his vast library of motion pictures, but none more notable than his roles in The Great Escape, Jurassic Park, Miracle on 34th Street, and in the original The Flight of the Phoenix, to name a few. He received two Academy Awards as a director and producer for Gandhi in 1983, as well as winning four BAFTA awards, three Golden Globe Awards and seventeen awards internationally.

In 1976, we was knighted Sir Richard Attenborough and by 1995 he become Baron Attenborough of Richmond upon Thames for receiving a life peerage, recognizing his British nobility.

Lord Richard Attenborough's last film as a writer-director was a British comedy titled Plucktoon, released in 2002. Later, he lent his voice for the spanish film “Tres en el camino”, also known as “Within the Way Without”, released in 2004.

By August 2008, Attenborough's health was beginning to decline and as a result of heart problems he was fitted with a pacemaker. That same year, he suffered a fall as a result of a stroke and was admitted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, southwest London. By March of 2013, Attenborough moved into a nursing home in London to be closer to his wife, theatre actress Sheila Sim.

Richard Attenborough is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
