The Top 5 Viral Drum Solos on Youtube

The Kings of skins as they are shared.

(SNN) - There is no better way to hear the best performances than to accept the vote of the viewing audience. There is no better place to look for these performances than on YouTube. Drummers represent the visceral response we get from music as the musicians lay down the beat exactly as they see it. Playing drums requires the ability to read the music even before it happens, to predict 'what comes next' as each strike of the skin, cymbal and percussion is committed to the track. They are masters at, 'I meant to do that'. So just sit back and listen as The Sage presents our Top Five Best Drummers as voted by their online virality.

Featured here are the five (5) best drum solos, as voted by the viral sharing community:
  1. Steve Moore (The Mad Drummer): Steve Moore is the drummer for a variety showband called “Rick K and The Allnighters", a band with a Los Vegas style performance.”Technically not an actual drum solo, Steve is here because just watching his animated delivery is solo enough. This performance wins the #1 spot with a staggering 28,344,975 views and 203,760 thumbs up on Youtube.

  2. The Will Ferrell and Chad Smith Drum-Off: Admittedly, this received the #2 spot due to its comic injection, but there is no denying Chad Smith's masterful attack. Smith, the current drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is not a stranger to the scene. He has recorded with Deep Purple vocalist Glenn Hughes, Kid Rock, Jake Bugg, The Dixie Chicks, Jennifer Nettles, Johnny Cash, John Fogerty and The Avett Brothers, to name a few. With a vote of 23,102,055 views and 101,238 thumbs up it earned our number two spot.

  3. Vadrum Meets Super Mario Bros: At #3 we have the amazing Andrea Vadrucci, an online hit and a man with smooth classical delivery. This Italian master is the winner of the national “Drummer of Tomorrow” contest. He is known as the “Classical” drummer, having recorded with a 36 piece classical orchestra. He wins our #3 spot of all time with 20,326,750 views and 80,941 thumbs up.

  4. The Amazing Drummer - Gordo: Known to his online fans as Gordo Buckets, he uses nothing but plastic buckets, sticks and raw talent. This 24 years old, living in Sydney, Australia, studies native percussion at the Tokyo School of Music. He has the distinction of being the only street performer to hit the Sage's Top Five drummers. With 14,368,722 views and an amazing 156,301 thumbs up he should actually be in our number two spot, but then again this is based on their viral status.

  5. Thomas Lang - Best drum solo of the world: Thomas Lang is arguably the best known funk drummer in the world, and delivers such a smooth performance anyone listening to him is rewarded visually while he masters the skins using a classic stick hold with the discipline of a drum corp cadence. Classically trained at the Vienna Conservatory of Music, this Austrian musician is multi-talented and has earned a world-wide following. What can we say, with 9,745,743 views and 28,168 thumbs up, Lang made it to the top five drummers on The Sage's list.
