UPDATE: World's 'biggest sinkhole' baffles scientists - not caused by UFO

Early findings suggest an organic origin.

(SNN) - What has been wrongly reported worldwide as a sinkhole, a cavernous hole which appeared in the Yamil Peninsula in Siberia has been determined to be caused by a cutting force from deep within the Earth. Scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow were flown into the region in the early hours with an arsenal of scientific measuring equipment, a field bio-lab and a specially designed 'HD imaging drone' designated “Polet Zemlya Kamera”, aka the PZK.

The PZK, which was a classified remote imaging drone developed for deep cavernous spelunking, was put into motion at 0200 hrs, Moscow time. Operating on the world's smallest nuclear power cell, the PZK has a continuous flight time of 44 days, and is equipped with a high definition infrared imaging camera, Pulse-Doppler radar and gaseous samplers. Data and images transmitted from the drone have the Russia Science Academy tight lipped.

Was the hole created by a UFO?

Not even close. Media outlets initially reported that the 'sinkhole' was possibly created by a UFO. Siberia Today (ST) had reported that the hole had evidence of scorched earth and mounts of moultan rock circling the perimeter. However, the evidence gathered painted a different story.

Strange readings revealed radiation and a large organic specimen.

A source close to Siberia Today, told The Sage that the PZK reported that the hole produced evidence of Cesium-137, a byproduct of the nuclear fission processes in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons testing with a half-life of just over 30 years. Normally small quantities of Cesium-137 can be found in the environment from nuclear weapons tests that occurred in the 1950s and 1960s and from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, which occurred in 1986. The hole itself has been mapped to drop over 1000 metres beneath the earth, and then travels laterally in a south by southwest direction. The Pulse Doppler shows that the lateral tunnel is well over 300 km in length beyond the Pulse-Doppler's range.

Organic specimen found 1000 metres down.

One large specimen was located and photographed by the PZK. What looks like a scale measuring over 30 cm in width was depressed in earth mixed with bitumen. (see image right)

The preliminary findings of the Russian team have determined that the hole is not a sinkhole and is not caused by a UFO, and further disputes the earlier statement from one Russian expert who advised the cause was more likely to be global warming, releasing gases under the surface.

Although too early to draw any conclusions, it appears that a large creature with “air kerma” properties may have been the cause of the tunnel and subsequent crater.
