Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Star of 77 Sunset Strip and The FBI, Passes at 95 years

(SNN) – World War II veteran, television and movie actor, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., best known for his role as Inspector Lewis Erskine in the Quinn Martin television production, "The F.B.I.", passed away Friday from natural causes. Zimbalist was 95 years old.

His daughter Stephanie announced his passing in a statement, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing into peace of our beloved father, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., today at his Solvang ranch,” Stephanie, an accomplished actress in her own right, stated, “He was 95 years old, a devout Christian. He actively enjoyed his life to the last day, showering love on his extended family, playing golf and visiting with close friends.”

A respected Hollywood professional, Zimbalist's performance in the television show, “The F.B.I”, from 1965 to 1974, is arguably his best known work. Maintaining technical accuracy during the filming, Zimbalist developed a personal relationship with former F.B.I. Director, J. Edgar Hoover, who insisted the show portray the agency accurately and true to form.

Zimbalist was honoured for his role, which made the F.B.I cool, when in 2009 the FBI issued him his own special agent's badge, making him an honorary G-man. At that time, FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III stated, "We could not have asked for a better character, or a better man, to play his role."

Zimbalist has left behind a prolific volume of work, including ninety-three television and motion picture credits in such shows as, “77 Sunset Strip”, “Hawaiian Eye”, “Maverick”, “Remington Steele” and the science fiction series “Babylon Five.”
