Archie Andrews to be killed off.

Archie Comics to kill off Main Character after 70 years - sorta.

(SNN) - Archibald "Chick" Andrews will be dead, gone, toast, a goner in the next installment of the Archie Comics. Yes kids, the famous freckle faced flirtatious crackle voiced, pockmarked teenager who has not aged since he graced the comic pages in 1941, will be killed off.

Sorry gang, he is gonna die!

Archie Comics announced Tuesday that the comic series “Life with Archie” will conclude with the death of Archie Andrews. Archie Comics published “Life with Archie” as a vehicle to depict the ageless teenagers in an “after high school” setting. The series will conclude with issue #36 due out in July of this year.

You read it here first on The Sage, Chick Andrews will die in the arms of his duo of sweethearts, Betty and Veronica. What a way to go!

Of course, this not being real life, he may not be completely dead. Just a little, as Archie will die sacrificing his own life to save the life of a buddy. However, he will live on in the funny papers, as the teenager, Archie. If only real life was like that. We suspect, given the chance, everybody would like to relive their high school years.

Archie's first appearance in Pep Comics #22 on December 22, 1941, was drawn by Montana and written by Vic Bloom. With the creation of Archie, publisher Goldwater hoped he had appealed to fans of the Andy Hardy movies starring Mickey Rooney, who passed away only a few days ago. One of the longest running comic page characters, Archie continues to draw a fan-base of readers.

So, Archie is dead, or dying, or maybe just a little, but finally after over 70 years, he will be able to play out a dying scene. Way to go Chick!
