India's Superstar Sachin Tendulkar retires Cricket for Ice Hockey

Cricketeer signs deal with NHL's Vancouver Canucks.

(SNN) – As India's cricket superstar Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar's final matches unfold at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, rumours abound that the batsman, considered a demigod to Indian Sports fans, is leaving for Canada when he retires at the end of November.

Tendulkar, considered one of the worlds best athletes, is retiring from cricket to become a professional hockey player in the National Hockey League. (NHL).

“Yes, its true,” boasted Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis. “We are out-sourcing for the best talent.” According to the Mumbai Reflection, Tendulkar is joining the Vancouver Canucks for the 2014-2015 season.

Many Tendulkar watchers were suspicious when the multimillionaire cricketeer built a full sized private regulation ice-hockey rink in Mumbai. “We knew something was up,” stated Shital Ramandeep, owner of Mumbai Yogi Sports. “Sachin came in only two weeks ago looking for ice skates, I don't sell ice skates, this in India; it's hot man!”

The Sage has learned that the Canucks secured Tendulkar with the promise that they would allow him to wear the same number on his Jersey that became a familiar icon on the cricket scene in India. As a result, the Vancouver Canucks will have to bring Pavel Bure's No.10 out of retirement. Pavel's number was only retired in February of this year.

The deal is considered one of the sweetest ever negotiated in NHL history. As a signing bonus, Tendulkar was given a Ferrari 360 Modena sports car. The contract, which holds Tendulkar to a five year commitment is worth $124,000,000, giving the Indian superstar the richest purse offered in ice hockey history.

“He is worth every penny and every poison pen letter that I may receive from Pavel Bure,” stated Gilles, “Beside, he comes with his own stick and ankle pads.” Gilles was quick to add, “He will become an anchor for the team and an all-rounder ta-boot.”
