Celebrity chef Dora Dean admits using "N" word

(SNN) - Celebrity chef Dora Dean denies she's ever told racial jokes, but she did admit to using the "N" word, according to her recent court deposition in a lawsuit.

A former waitress at Dean's Cafe in Danville, Georgia, Bokesha Johnson, is suing her and her brother for racial harassment.

Her lawyer denies the allegations. "Contrary to the stories in the media, Ms. Dean does not condone or find the use of racial metaphors acceptable," her lawyer, Jesse Skyler said. "She is looking forward to clearing her good name in court."

Dean attended civil court in Danville this week for examination. “Have you ever used derogatory slurs when referring to people of color?” asked Skyler of Dean. Dean quickly denied the allegations as a dirty lie. “One time I referred to a black man that robbed me in an unacceptable manner, but that was only on the one occasion.” When asked if she ever told an off-color joke Dean advised that she is known to deliver a few good ones, but uses the “N” word only in a nice way.

"That's just not a word that we use as time has gone on," she said. "Things have changed since the '60s in the South. And my children object to that word being used in any mean way."

Dean volunteered that she only uses the “N” word in a good way, like, “That “N” sure has a nice hat, or that's a pretty cute “N” baby,” volunteered Dean.“ Georgia is a wonderful place for those people nowadays, we are truly an enlightened state.”
