Vatican Raising Tithe Amount to 11%

Pope Approves First Increase in Millennia

(The Vatican) Pope Francis has continued to shake up the papacy by announcing the traditional tithe amount of 10% which has been in place since Old Testament biblical times, will creep up by 1%. The increase, according to the bishop who made the announcement, will be to help offset mounting legal costs facing the Catholic Church.

“A tithe is one tenth,” said Bishop Flogger, when describing the initiative in a press conference at the Vatican. “Therefore we are simply asking for a tithe on the tithe; which our accountants assure us conforms quite nicely to scripture.”

Other religious denominations are watching the proceedings closely. Tithing is a practice in many faiths and it is generally acknowledged that if it flies with the Catholics with little pushback, they will be adding a tithe to their tithe too.

So far the news has been received well by the majority of Catholics surveyed. One anonymous donor was quoted as saying, “I’m not sure why an omnipotent being needs more money, but if He’s a little short, I’m more than happy to help!”
